Pittsburgh Pub Crawl
International (c)

A few years ago, a few friends, students at the University of Pittsburgh, began frequenting bars after theme picnics (such as drinking skeeball). Later, they moved the after-picnic events to other parts of the city and to several bars in the area. More and more people joined this informal club. As time passed, fewer and fewer of the core group survived. Soon, only one of the original group remained active in the organization of the crawls. Fortunately for the regular crawlers, Frank had not graduated yet. He and I kept the crawl going. When Frank left for basic training with the Army, the crawl club also took a break. To welcome him back, I organized the first crawl that had none of the original members. Later, a few new people offered to help us organize the crawls. However, we soon discovered that they did not share our ideals. So, Frank and I left them the name of the old club and formed a new group.

For a while, we could not decide on a new name. Our crawls were known only as "George and Frank's Crawl." Fortunately, one of the Beer homepages on the WEB solved our problem for us. It had a link to our homepage calling us simply "Pittsburgh Pub Crawl."

We liked it. It stuck.

Since then, we have had crawls with record numbers of people.
In co-operation with a local travel agency, we took our group on the road.
On a crawl through Dublin, we met up with patrons of a sports bar in Monaghan. At the time, they were Bears fans. After crawling with us and attending our tailgate party, they became Steeler fans.
In November 1997, several of the patrons of this sports bar, The Squealing Pig, traveled to Pittsburgh to join us at another Steeler game and Crawl with us.
We invaded the Southside with Pigs on Tour and full media coverage.
We expected 70 crawlers. We stopped counting at 150.
Carolyn Abel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette did a story on our friends

In March 1998, we took eight faithful Crawlers back to Ireland to visit the Pigs in their hometown and to recreate our Dublin crawl. The Northern Standard did an article on us.

In October 1998, 17 Pigs came back to Pittsburgh...this time bringing a band with them. On Friday morning, they made their second appearance on the WDVE morning show. Afterwards, they visited the Pour House in Carnegie. While the rest were at the Pour House, we had Sean McMahon tattooed with the money we collected through the TAP (Tattoo A Pig) foundation. Sean now has the Tazmanian Devil wearing a Pittsburgh Pub Crawl T-Shirt on his left shoulder blade. On Saturday, we crawled the Strip District. However, this time it was a little different. We started in the afternoon with a concert by The Route, the band made up of Pigs. After an excellent performance by the band, we crawled six bars in the Strip. On Sunday, we took in another Steeler game. (The Steelers are now 3 for 3 while Pigs are present. What do you think of that, Rooney?) On Monday night, the Pigs partied at the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern to the music of The Route.
Be sure to check out the Pittsburgh Pub Crawl International's homepage for pictures of the weekend.

On November 8, 1998, the Army sent me to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for 270 days. While I was there, the crawls continued here. I also managed to have a few small crawls while in Europe. I toured the bars and apple wine houses of Frankfurt. Since American's are prohibited (by our own rules) from drinking in the American sector of BiH, we had to travel to the French sector for our crawl. This time we had more people but fewer bars. (What do you expect in a military base?) In March 1999, we explored the Pubs of Krakow Poland.

August 20, 2001 - the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette did a second story on us. This time we were featured as the very first article in Alt.Seen column of the Lifestyles section. I have heard that since that time, Post-Gazette people refer to us as "the wedding planner" since quite a few people met on the crawl and got married.
Although I am prohibited from placing a link here to the article, I can tell you to go to the www.post-gazette.com search engine and search for "boguslawski"

March 2001 - We brought a band from Ireland. After all, Paddy's Day is better with Koochy.

Stay tuned to our homepage and feel free to join us on a crawl (or several).
